THE main route from Plymouth into the South Hams was blocked on Monday after a driver flipped his car.

The A379 on the outskirts of Plymstock was blocked at around 4pm after a grey Volkswagon Golf GTI ended up on its roof.

Police said they suspect the driver, a 48 year old Plymouth man, suffered a medical incident at the wheel. A child was also in the vehicle at the time.

An off-duty police officer along with an off-duty doctor or nurse were first on the scene, with an ambulance and police arriving soon after. Both victims were found to be conscious, breathing and out of the vehicle.

The road was cleared by 5.20pm.
