A massive tree has fallen onto Blackpool Sands and blocked a footpath that is popular with walkers.
The broken tree fell halfway along the route near Stoke Fleming and now towers over the beach.
Nick Mathias, deputy station manager at Dartmouth Coastguard, said: “There is now a new path bypassing the tree and the older wooden bridge that is now unstable.
“We’re not sure who did the new path, however, we have contacted and encouraged the beach estate owners and they’ve agreed to place a cordon under the fallen tree as there is currently not one there.”
Dartmouth Coastguard urged walkers to take care and keep to the new path.
It is not clear when the tree first came down, but arrangements are being made to remove it from the beach and cliff edge.
The land is owned by the Newman estate.
