2nd Ivybridge Brownies are looking back over an action-packed term that culminated in a successful fundraising event for a wildlife charity.
The unit finished the summer term by welcoming families and the public to a beetle drive. Three of the oldest Brownies planned and ran the event in aid of WWF.
They were presented with a hostess badge at the end of the evening as a result of their organisation and hosting skills, demonstrated by the invitations and table decorations they made, and the way in which they welcomed their guests and served refreshments.
Another highlight of the term was a survival bushcraft and wilderness skills trip to the Cotehele Estate in Cornwall. The Brownies learnt how to use knives safely to build shelters, how to light fires to boil water and which British plants were useful and which should be avoided.
Other activities enjoyed by the girls in recent months included a treasure hunt around Fore Street, completing the Fire Prevention badge and a Promise Ceremony in Longtimber Woods.
A warm welcome is on offer for anyone interested in joining Brownies. Please contact the unit by email [email protected] or via the Facebook page, or register for 2nd Ivybridge Brownies at girlguiding.org.uk , ’register your daughter’ under the ’information for parents’ tab.
