DIPTFORD Computer Club have received a grant of £1,384 from the Devon Community Foundation to update their equipment.

The money has helped to purchase a laptop and printer and vitally, make the most of the newly available super-fast broadband.

This will help the club to run computer skills courses for older members of the community, as well as offering essential internet access for households who are unable to afford, or access it, themselves.

Nancy Hill from Diptford Computer Club said: ‘The impact of this support cannot be underestimated, living in a rural village like ours means that many families are left without internet access.

‘This can create huge communication barriers and leave many people with a real lack of confidence when using computers, our club aims to overcome this and the funding from the foundation is a huge step forward.’

The club already organises a number of classes, and they are now looking forward to building their members’ confidence and bringing the local community even closer together.

Martha Wilkinson, chief executive of the Devon Community Foundation said: ‘The foundation worked with Belltown Power to set up the Diptford Community Fund with the community benefit element of the Coombeshead Solar Farm.

‘The fund will support local community groups make a positive difference to the lives of local disadvantaged people, forever.

‘Diptford Computer Club is a great example of the real difference this support can make, but we want to do more so if you know a great community project in Diptford looking for funding please don’t wait, put an application in today.’

Applications are welcome at any time, further information about the foundation and funding opportunities is available online at www.devoncf.com, by telephoning 01884 235887 or emailing [email protected].
