AN Ivybridge primary school has celebrated its 25th birthday in style with a ’90s themed day.

It is now 25 years since Woodlands Park Primary School in Abbot Road welcomed its first pupils.

So children and staff decided to mark the occasion by dressing up as ’90s icons including the Spice Girls, Freddie Mercury, SuperMario, the scientist who cloned Dolly the sheep, and a Tamagotchi.

Pupils had spent the first two weeks of the autumn term learning about key events in the ’90s, and how technology has developed over the last 25 years. This culminated in an assembly where they shared their learning and sang ’90s classics including a rousing rendition of the One and Only by Chesney Hawkes.

The assembly was also a chance for staff and children to show their appreciation of Paulette Furnival, who returned to the school after ending 17 years’ service as a governor in the summer. The school said she would be ’sorely missed’.
