The builders have moved in to one South Hams primary as construction of a brand new purpose-built preschool begins.
Following a fundraising drive by the Friends of Diptford School and a generous donation by a local charity, the building will provide much needed teaching and learning space.
Head of school Ginny French said: "The preschool is such an important part of our school family and really needed a purpose built space. The new building will give them their own designated space with access to all the school facilities and grounds.
"The Diptford preschoolers started the works with a little dig of their own, getting the foundations started last week".
The new preschool building has been a long term ambition for the school. Executive principal Tony Callcut said: "We are really grateful for the support we have received in making our dream come true. The school is set in such a beautiful location but it is only ten minutes from the A38, so we feel we have a great offer for local parents.
"The children will be able to enjoy all the facilities on offer including the forest school experience, where they will be able to experience the outdoors and learn in an inspiring environment."
The preschool is due to open in September and is open for provisional bookings for full time and part time places. For further information contact the school office on 01548 821352 or email [email protected] .
