STOWFORD School said goodbye to its Year 6 leavers in a special assembly as children ended their final day at the school with a cake sale to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

The Friends of Stowford organised a last primary school disco as children celebrated ending their primary years in style, with some arriving in limousines.

During the leavers’ assembly all pupils were presented with a dictionary and they had the opportunity to share some of their special memories of their time at Stowford and their aspirations for the future.

The winners of the annual awards were also announced, including a new ‘Spirit of Stowford’ Award.

At the end of the day, a group of Year 6 girls ran a cake sale to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The girls asked permission to run the sale after one of their classmate’s father died from cancer the previous Sunday.

Head teacher Helen Tipping said: ‘Our final assembly of the summer term is always tinged with emotion, as the Year 6 children celebrate all they have achieved during their time at the school, while looking forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead at Ivybridge Community College.

‘This Year 6 has made all their parents and teachers very proud throughout their primary days and they’ve realised some amazing achievements in their last year, from county-level standard in a range of sports to a top-quality musical production.

‘The fact that they wanted to show their practical support for a fellow pupil on the last day was a truly lovely gesture and typical of the children.

‘It was really appreciated by the family and well-supported by the whole school community, raising £140 for Cancer Research UK.

‘We wish all of them happiness and success in their impressive and varied ambitions and thank them all for their valuable contributions to our school community during their time at Stowford.’
