YOUNGSTERS young and old at a local primary school held audiences captivated with a range of festive performances before the end of term last week.

Foundation and Key stage 1 children at Stowford School in Ivybridge presented a spectacular Christmas performance of Superstar for the rest of the school and parents. The play tells the traditional nativity story with upbeat songs and a showbiz atmosphere.

In Superstar, members of the school’s Celestial Choir hope to dazzle music teacher Mr Marrz as they vye for the superstar role in the nativity play. Stella, who always tries hard but often gets things wrong is chosen, to her surprise, to play the part of the Star of Bethlehem - because she understands the heart of the true Christmas message.

Older children gave another successful carol concert at Ivybridge Methodist Church, with readings from the Bible guiding the audience through the Christmas story.

The concert opened with Alice singing the first verse of Once in Royal David’s City with Alyssa, Alana, Grace and Lucy accompanying her for the second. Every class performed a Christmas song as well as joining together to sing traditional and modern carols.

Head teacher Sue Williams said: ’All the children, from Nursery to Year 6, make us extremely proud. They, and the staff, put a tremendous amount of effort into producing outstanding performances.’
