AN Ivybridge Brownies unit has raised nearly £300 for a charity close to one girl’s heart with a pop-up shop in Glanvilles Mill.
2nd Ivybridge Brownies held the event on Saturday in an empty unit at the town shopping centre, having received permission from owners London and Cambridge Properties.
The girls spent the morning serving tea, coffee and home made cakes to visitors, raising a grand total of £291.18.
The money will be given to the Alzheimer’s Society, the charity chosen by Brownie Kaytlin Peters, who has an immediate family member that suffers from the condition.
Brownie leader Amanda Mead said: ’We had a very successful morning. The Brownies with help from their parents had made some lovely cakes, and on the day worked brilliantly together selling them along with cups of tea and coffee.
’This was made possible by London and Cambridge Properties kindly allowing us to use the empty shop free of charge.’
During the summer term the four oldest members of the unit got to choose a charity and give presentations, with their fellows voting on which one to support.
Although Blue Cross for Pets came out on top, Kaytlin gave such a heartfelt presentation for the Alzheimer’s Society that the Brownies felt they wanted to support it too.
