HEROIC delivery driver Gary Brewer has won yet another award for his actions in rescuing an elderly couple from deep flood water last winter.

Mr Brewer was in the right place at the right time on December 30 to save Joanne Pool and Ralph Land, who had driven into deep flood water at a notorious spot between Venton and Sparkwell.

Unable to escape from their car, the terrified couple could only watch as the water level rose.

Arriving at the scene, Mr Brewer did not hesitate but waded in and smashed the passenger side window with a rock. The passenger was helped through the window, before Mr Brewer rescued the driver via the boot, helped by another member of the public.

Having received an award from Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service for his actions earlier this year, Mr Brewer has now been recognised by his trade body, the Institute of Couriers.

The driver, who works at APC Parcel Express in Saltash, received the 2016 National Four Wheels Award at the 2016 National Courier Awards in London, which celebrate excellence across courier services.

The shindig was the 20th annual awards run by the institute. Mr Brewer received his award from Institute of Couriers Chairman Carl Lomas.
