Politicians can’t be gardeners or they wouldn’t call elections and referendums in May and June.

My time to research the rights and wrongs of this referendum is limited by flourishing weeds, though I am fortunate to have help from our German gardener and Polish mason.

So I look to those I respect and admire for their conclusions on which way to vote.

Our wonderful local MP, Dr Sarah Wollaston, has just announced that the lies from the Brexit campaigners have caused her to join the Remain group.

The politicians I admire most – Shirley Williams and our former MEP Sir Graham Watson – are both keen to Remain. Most economists and financial experts also favour Remain.

So based on all of these supporters, I have sent my postal vote and can now concentrate on the garden.
