PAUL GREEN, of Galmpton, writes:

Regarding the letter from John Best about the potato plant moving to Churchstow, why is the present plant at Galmpton classed as an agricultural business, but suddenly becomes and industrial one at Churchstow?

Secondly, this business does not process potatoes. It does not chip, dice, powder or peel them. It simply grades, packs and washes – no different to baling hay or straw or threshing grain.

As far as transport is concerned, there will be fewer lorries travelling on local roads as there will be no need to store potatoes up country, just to bring them back to sort and pack them.

The Area of Outstanding Naturall Beauty concern will be the same as it is now, as the present plant is in an AONB.

I also suggest that people stand outside the present plant when it is operating and note the lack of light pollution and noise.
