I write regarding the ongoing issue over having to pay to use the public toilets in Kingsbridge.

As a schoolgirl living at Paignton in the 1950s, it cost one old penny to use the toilets, hence the expression ‘spending a penny’.

A penny then now equates in value to 24p so 20p is a bargain!

Surely it is better to pay something for clean hygienic toilet facilities than to have them closed.
