Joyous revellers descended on Dartmouth last weekend for music festival Tunes on the Sands.

The three-day event at Blackpool Sands boasted acts including the Proclaimers, Newton Faulkner, the Hoosiers, UB40 and KT Tunstall.

There was a leisurely start to Friday morning as campers arrived slowly but surely.

A crescent of boats of all sizes gathered along the shoreline to soak up the atmosphere, and the odd savvy beachgoer or local sat on the hill to take it all in.

Plymouth folk band Mad Dog Mcrea entertained the crowd ahead of indie rockers the Hoosiers.

Newton Faulkner attracted a big audience with stunning guitar chords, and even those trying out the beach volleyball stopped in awe of his set.

Eagerly awaited Wet Wet Wet and The Proclaimers saw the first night in, with one couple waving a Scottish flag in their honour.

An array of food was available from mackerel-finger baps to pulled mutton burgers, wood-fired pizza and Moroccan-style wraps.

Saturday was another big day, with the cloudy start not holding many back, as Joey the Lips and Dorito Mariachis had everyone tapping their feet.

Natty healed hangovers in time for UB40 and Ali Astro, as cider spouted from loosely gripped glasses and arms waving in the air.

Out-of-tune wails were heard coming from the silent disco as revellers danced around with headphones on.

A beach clean ensued on Sunday morning, with signs on the beach encouraging visitors to grab a bag for a ten-minute sweep.

KT Tunstall rounded off the weekend with alternative anthems such as ’Suddenly I See’ and ’Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’ amusing fans.

Camping was well organised, stewards thoughtfully placed on the crossing where the lane meets the tight bend, and the bay felt safe.
