Firstly, well done to the committee for their tireless efforts making Salcombe Regatta a fun and busy week.
Secondly, to all the fishermen, locals and holidaymakers who enjoyed the Crabber’s race – please please please think again before you throw water balloons into our beautiful estuary.
Eight million tonnes of plastic already enter the oceans from land – we do not need any more polluting our waters or harming fish, seabirds and marine mammals.
One third of UK-landed seafood has been found to contain microplastics – tiny fragments of plastic – and we are part of this food chain.
Many people make a living from these ‘pristine’ waters via tourism or the fishing industry; let’s all do our bit to protect this coastline for us all to enjoy now and in the future.”
