Again the weather defeated the ladies’ competition on Wednesday – only two very brave ladies went out to play nine holes, while the rest of us stayed in the clubhouse playing bridge and eating lunch, writes Liz Line. The men’s medal on Sunday was even more unlucky as snow closed the course.
However, on Saturday morning, before the snow arrived, we held the mixed competition over 11 holes in a ferocious east wind and a sprinkling of snow, making for very cold but dry conditions. It was a Delaney Texas Scramble with 10 per cent of the team’s handicap.
The first two teams were very close, with runners-up being club captains Harry Cattell and Heather Spencer and Lesley and Simon Davey with 39.2 shots and the winning team of Wendy and Philip Laud and Diane and Paul Symonds finishing with 39 shots.
Everyone enjoyed hot drinks – and Guinness – and lunch in the newly decorated clubhouse afterwards.
