Thank goodness the snow has disappeared and we have had a couple of nice, sunny days this week.
The juniors’ February stableford was held on Sunday, February 18, and in first place came George Inch (33) with 35 points. Very well done George – a good score given the conditions.
The circus met on Friday, February 23, with Stuart Shawcross recording 37 points from John Milne on 35 points and third-placed Graham Postance, with 34 points.
The Ladies Three-Ball Texas Scramble held on Saturday, February 24, in bitterly cold weather saw Amanda Burchell (5), Lucinda Kirkham (15) and Caroline Hallett (20) coming in first with 71 points. The ladies taking part were so muffled up it was difficult to identify anyone on the course, with headgear that included balaclavas, scarves and hats.
The men’s March midweek stableford competition on Wednes-day, March 7, attracted a large field of entrants – 67 men played in the competition, with good scores recorded as follows: division one – 1. Phil Towner (12), 40 points; 2. Owen Roberts (14), 34 points; and 3. Stephen Smith (12), 33 points. Division two – 1. Nick Hanbury (16) (on countback), 38 points; 2. Bryan Newitt (15), 38 points; and 3. David Thrush (17), 36 points.
Eight twos were scored, with Phil Towner getting two of them on the fifth and 17th holes.
