Last Wednesday marked the official end of the ladies’ golfing season.
During the annual meeting, Kate Purcell spoke of her golfing year, marking out the major events including the winning of the League Trophy and the successful fundraising for breast cancer charities.
She also mentioned the successes of the ladies during the year at the opens and the DGLA meetings, at which Val Holman won the scratch and stableford competition.
Kate congratulated the section on another successful year. She passed on the badge of office to Jane Cooke; who was voted in as the ladies’ captain for 2016-2017 and wished her well in the coming year.
Jane thanked Kate for her sterling work for the year on behalf on the section.
The pro shop team look would like to congratulate Jane on becoming the ladies’ captain for the 2017 season.
The junior section played a fun competition last Friday; the smaller juniors played three holes and the older juniors played nine holes. All the juniors had great fun, with Alex Bartlett winning the putting competition.
The results of the Devon county medal competitions were announced.
In the bronze division the winner was Angie Newman and the runner-up Kim Flook and in the silver division the winner was Ruth Bickle and the runner-up Val Holman.
The two winners will represent Wrangaton at the Devon County Medal finals at Royal North Devon golf club next year.
Last week the vets played two competitions; on the Tuesday they played a medal and on the Thursday the played a medford.
Julian Mitchell won division one with a net 66 and the vet’s captain John Fox won division two with a net 65, two very good scores. Julian has been having some golf lessons and the hard work has paid off.
In second place in division one was Jeff Baily 67 and in third Neil Parker 70.
In division two, second was Roger Fowler 69, third Neil Toogood 70. There were three twos, by Peter Bryant, Bill Purser and Gerry Sewell.
Club captain Mike Tremain won the medford beating Neil Parker on countback with 13 points, followed by Bill Purser in third with 14 points in division one.
David Bloomfield came out on top in division two with a score of 15 points. Second was Allan Hill with 17 points and in third Barry Foster 17 points.
The men’s section played the October stableford on Saturday, with 60 players taking part. The conditions were perfect for golf.
Paul Perry carded a very impressive 43 points and his new handicap is now 16.2.
He was followed in second place by John Morris with 40 points and in the same division Gareth Andrews, one point back on 39, finished third, all three players in division two.
Jeff Bailey beat Dean Dickerson to first place in division one with 38 points, beating Dean on countback, and in third place came Jason Carwadine with 37 points.
Leigh Jarrett took top spot in division three with 37 points, ahead of Steve Meara in second with 35 and third Ray Chalmers on 33.
