Wrangaton Golf Club
Par competition the Allen Cup was held on Wednesday. The winner was Ruth Bickle, who was on +1, while in second place was Kim Flook on -2. For most of the field the course won. Katie Purcell congratulated Ruth on her excellent result.
On Sunday the mixed friendly was played away against Teign Valley. Despite some excellent scores on behalf of Wrangaton, Teign won by a margin. This annual fixture is enjoyed by the club and Wrangaton looks forward to welcoming Teign Valley to our course next year.
On Thursday the seniors’ section held their annual Vets’ Cup and the Over 70s Cup. The conditions were excellent, which was reflected by some great scoring. Colin Trevethick was the winner of the Vets’ Cup with a great score of 45 points. Roger Fowler won the Over 70s Cup, also with a score of 45 points. Peter Bryant came in second place in the over-70s event, with a score of 42 points playing off a handicap of eight.
The August medal was played on Sunday in very blustery conditions. Tommy Ryder was the winner of division one with a net score of 69, playing of a two handicap.
Hugh Normanton was runner-up in division one on countback with a net 69, but Tommy Ryder had the better back-nine score. Peter Bird took third place on countback from Tim Nand-lal, with both players finishing with a score of net 70.
Neil Luscombe was the winner of division two, beating Gareth Elliott on countback after both players finished with a great net 67.
