On Thursday, the Wrangaton vets’ section travelled to Dawlish Warren for their first friendly fixture of the season.
Veterans’ vice-captain Peter Barraud was the captain for the day. Unfortunately, the match finished in Dawlish Warren’s favour at 3½-2½.
Nevertheless, this was a great team effort away from home and the vets will be full of confidence when they take on Staddon Heights on home ground this week.
The Wrangaton junior academy is going from strength to strength. This week was the start of the ‘star golfer award’ at Wrangaton.
The award will be given out each week to the junior who the professional thinks deserves the award. This week it went to Daniel Gavin, who impressed with his continued effort and great ball striking.
On Saturday, the March stableford was played. The course was tough to play on, with cold temperatures and strong winds making it a difficult day for good scoring. Jono Wright had the best score of the event with 42 points, a great effort.
Darren Lockley and Dave Beer both finished with 39 points, but Darren took second spot on countback with a great back nine of 21 points. There were a total of nine twos on the day.
