With the season drawing swiftly to it’s close, Ivybridge are in serious need of some wins to keep themselves in division two of the Saturday League.
Their opponents for this weeks match were local neighbours Yealmpton.
Played on the Bridge Park green, it was the hosts that got off to the better start and after the first session of eight ends they held a tenuous four-shot lead. The second session went to Yealmpton, which they won by eight shots.
The cream teas this week was supplied and served by Joan Barnett, assisted by Georgina Deans and Jo Robinson from the ladies’ section.
After receiving the thanks from both captains, the teams took to the green again for the last two sessions.
In what was a game of thrust and counter-thrust, the home team took the honours over the third eight, winning it by seven shots to give them a narrow three-shot lead heading into the final eight ends.
This slender lead was quickly eroded as the visitors took control and by the time the final wood had come to rest they had overturned the small Ivies advantage and ended up with a comfortable 11-shot victory.
For the Ivybridge team only one rink finished with a winning score.
Peter Bray, Bruce Robinson, Dave Taylor and skip Dave Crisp won 32-27. Drawing 29-29 on the day were Jack Bilby, Frank Sanders and Larry Ireland skipped by Eric Bennett.
Losing 21-28 were Geoff Brimblecombe, Brian Harman and Chris Bufton with skip Roland Lugger. Completing the scores, Rob Woodcock, Paul Morgan, Grenville Barnett and skip Stan Parsons went down 24-33.
Once more it has been impossible to play an Evening League match, meaning the already rearranged game against Lee Moor was cancelled again due to heavy rain storms which caused flooding to their green.
