With the nights pulling in the start time had to be brought forward to 4.30pm. This time the weather was kind and the match started promptly.
Ivybridge got off to a great start and after just five ends they were 22 shots to the good. It was a lead they never looked like relinquishing.
With the cards verified after the game had concluded, the Ivies came away with a winning margin of 31 shots. With a score of 26-9, the best Ivybridge rink was skipped by Grenville Barnett aided by Mike Hexter, Geoff Brimblecombe and Dave Taylor.
David Bithell, Brian Harman and Roland Lugger, skipped by Eric Bennett, won 20-11, and also with a win were Peter Bray, Dave Fourte, Sandy Robertson and skip John Cann. Their score was 19-13. Only the rink skipped by Ken Kempthorne, with Fred Hawkes, Rob Woodcock and Chris Bufton, lost, and this was only by one shot, with a score of 17-18.
The Saturday League match away to Devonport Park was a must-win game for both sides.
Ivybridge have been propping up the division two league for many weeks. A win by Devonport would mean Ivybridge would have to win both their remaining two matches at high-flying Torpoint and Mount Gold.
With both these matches away from home, it would be a tough challenge.
A win for Ivybridge, though, would see them leapfrog both Devonport on shot difference and also the already demoted Plympton side.
After the first eight ends had been completed the Ivies had turned in probably their best-ever start to hold a 49-8 lead.
The second session was won by the home side 25-21, but Ivybridge stormed back, winning the third eight 34-23.
They were to lose one shot in the last session, but the match went to the visitors at 131-84. Dave Fourte, Arthur Baxendale, Chris Bufton and skip Stan Parsons won 30-12, while skip Grenville Barnett with Dave Moulder, Dave Bithell and Dave Taylor finished 43-23.
Peter Bray, Brian Harman, Roland Lugger and skip John Cann were also winners by 36-23. With a 22-26 score, the only rink to go down was Jack Bilby, Paul Morgan and Larry Ireland skipped by Eric Bennett. The final score there was 131-84.
This puts both teams on eight points, but as Devonport have now completed their fixtures and with Ivybridge’s vastly superior shot difference of 239.5 shots, only two disastrous and unprecedented results for them could alter the league positions.
